Rick and his Hearing Ear Dog Guide Yasmine live in St. Catharines, Ontario. Rick has been completely deaf since 2000 due to an industrial work accident. Yasmine is Rick’s second Dog Guide. Hutch, his first dog was with him for 11 years. Yasmine is quickly becoming a vital part of Rick’s life. Although it was difficult for Rick to take on another Dog Guide, he couldn’t be happier with Yasmine, though she has some big ‘paws’ to fill. Yasmine is a playful, smart and eager to please pup aiding Rick in the little things that we take for granted, “She wakes me up when the alarm clock goes off, tells me when someone is at the door, and she tells me when my telephone rings too,” says Rick.
What does your support mean to Dog Guides graduates?
“Please give generously. These animals give comfort and companionship. It is very hard to live in a world of silence. They help us in our day-to-day lives and allow us to have a sense of independence, and feel more secure and safe when we venture out on our own, with them by our sides,” says Rick.
