Meet 7-year-old-Henry and his dog guide Ulrik, graduates from the Autism Assistance program with Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides. From London, Ontario, Henry is a loving and active child who struggles with anxiety and communication due to his autism spectrum disorder. Thanks to the support of Ulrik, Henry is able to confidently tackle daily life and new activities.
“We had a successful trip to the movie theatre; Ulrik helped Henry stay calm and in his seat throughout the movie.” says Henry’s mother Jessica. “During walks to the park or in parking lots, Henry is tethered to Ulrik, which provides comfort for Henry and ensures that Henry will not bolt into unsafe areas.”
Because of your generous contributions to our calendar and bandan program, Canadians like Henry are able to receive the support they need, at no cost to them. What does it mean to Henry and his family to have received a Dog Guide? “Dog Guides give Canadians with disabilities a chance to live more independently and with more confidence. Also, Dog Guides offer support and friendship,” says Jessica.
